Objectives Of Crime Scene Investigation


Crime Scene Investigation :
  • The purpose of crime scene investigation is to help establish what happened (crime scene reconstruction) and to identify the responsible person(s). 
Objectives of CSI:
  • To recognise physical evidence
  • To preserve physical evidence
  • To collect physical evidence
  • To interpret physical evidence
  • To reconstruct relevant physical evidence
  • Determine whether a crime has been committed. If it is determined that there is no crime involved, or if the issue is one for the civil courts, law enforcement personnel have no responsibility.
  • If a crime has been committed, determine whether it was committed within the investigators’ jurisdiction.
  • Discovery & documentation of all facts pertaining to the complaint in question.
  • Identify & eliminate suspects as a result of collected physical & testimonial evidence.
  • Maintain a proper chain of custody to ensure that the collected evidence is admissible in court.
